Spinal Conditions

Why Do Most People Go To A Chiropractor?

Most people first go to a Doctor of Chiropractic because they have some type of ache or pain that they would like the

Doctor to help them relieve. But, they quickly learn after Dr. Miller has educated them on the

Adverse Health Effects from "Spinal Nerve Interference,"  that  this may be more than just back pain.

Below, you can discover if Chiropractic care is right for you!

Neck Pain

A popular response to neck pain is taking drugs to cover up the problem (aspirin, analgesics, pain pills) or just treating its symptoms (muscle relaxers, massage, hot packs). But neck pain is not caused by a lack of aspirin or drugs! The chiropractic approach to neck pain is to locate the underlying cause of it in the neck.. By improving spinal structure and function to the nerve, neck pain often diminishes completely without addictive drugs or harmful side effects! In the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, one study found that patients who receive chiropractic care reported significant improvements in their neck function and reduction of their neck pain, whereas those taking painkillers did not.

"Whiplash,” the Acceleration/Deceleration Injury

Injuries to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head backward, forward, or sideways are commonly referred to as “Whiplash.” These traumas can occur in many ways, from automobile accidents to sporting events or even just a simple fall. All of these can have long-term damaging effects on your neck and back, resulting in instability of the spine and soft tissues.. As the body attempts to adapt, symptoms may not appear until weeks or even months later. The most common symptoms associated with whiplash are headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, pain in the shoulders, arms and hands, reduced ability to turn and bend. Most people don’t desire to rely on addictive pain medication and seeking out the Chiropractic Approach to help normalize spinal function by helping to restore proper motion and position of the spinal bones. If these types of injuries are treated early, inflammation can be reduced and scar tissue can often be minimized. If left untreated, whiplash injuries can cause lasting effects of pain and suffering.

Headaches

Some people think that getting a headache is just a normal part of life!

Headaches are a sign that something is wrong. A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back. When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected, and they can produce throbbing headaches.. Aspirin and medications may only cover up these warning signs but do not correct the underlying structural cause. Specific Chiropractic Adjustment techniques can help correct these spinal joint dysfunctions called “Vertebral Subluxations.” Many people experience correction and relief through chiropractic care. Every patient responds differently. After a complete examination, you will receive a care program design for your unique spinal problem. Benefit from the drug-free results millions have enjoyed by consulting a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Mid-back Pain

Mid-back pain is one of the most common complaints patients report when they first visit a chiropractic doctor. Symptoms of mid-back pain can range from muscle tightness and spasms, trigger points (area of acute spasm and pain), restricted range of motion when bending or twisting and sharp pains from the back that radiating to the front.. The rib cage can also be distorted, causing symptoms that mimic respiratory or cardiac problems such as shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat and fast or slow heart rhythms. The mid-back area is highly reactive and can compensate for the pelvis and lower back region or the upper neck and cervical spine area. Sitting at a computer or driving for long periods are two common origins of mid-back-related pain.

Lower Back Pain

Many factors can be responsible for lower back pain. Improper sitting or lifting, overexertion, trauma, or inherent spinal abnormalities may contribute to the cause. Many of the pain-sensing nerves of the spine are in the facet joints, which are the two interlocking “fingers” at the back of each spinal bone.. The usually smooth surfaces on which these joints glide can become rough and inflamed. Another cause of lower back pain can be a bulging disc putting pressure on the spinal cord or a nearby nerve root. The result is often numbness, tingling or pain down the leg.

Sciatica: a common cause

for hip and leg pain.

The sciatic nerves are the largest nerves of the body. They reach the size of your thumb in diameter and run down the back of each leg. When these nerves are irritated or affected by inflammation of nearby soft tissues as they exit the spine.  Pain is the result, and is referred to as Sciatica. The lumbar spine (lower back), where the sciatic nerves begins, is the most frequently injured area of the spine. This can also be accompanied by a bulging or herniated disc, which acts as a spacer between each spinal bone.. Symptoms may include intense lower back pain, burning, cramping or numbness that radiates into the thighs, legs, ankles, feet and toes. This pain may also be limited to various points along the nerve, such as the buttocks, knee area and calf. While it may take time, conservative chiropractic care can successfully remove the cause of sciatica and allow the patient to respond dramatically without the need for surgery.  Research shows that sciatica has an 8-9% greater recovery rate when treated with chiropractic adjustments than if patients were to use therapy or standard medical care.

Spinal Disc Problems

Since spinal discs (the shock absorbers between the spinal bones) have an inadequate blood supply, they also depend upon the circulation of joint fluids to bring in nutrients and expel waste. Trauma or injury to the spine can cause a disc to bulge, herniate or rupture. This can be quite painful, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots, often interfering with their function. The chiropractic approach to disc problems is to help restore better motion and position of the spinal joints to allow more normal .

Spinal Degeneration

Spinal degeneration is how the body responds to improperly functioning spinal joints caused by misalignments. It is the same process the body uses to mend a broken bone. The body attempts to fuse the adjacent spinal bones. With early detection, appropriate Chiropractic Care has been shown to slow, stop, or even reverse the early stages of this process. Pain or other symptoms may not be present as degeneration occurs..

Regardless of age, when spinal damage goes uncorrected, the body deposits calcium on the surface of the adjacent bones that aren’t moving correctly. A lifetime of neglect may cause the eventual fusion of the malfunctioning joints. Atrophy, permanent nerve damage, and soft tissue degeneration will become prevalent, reducing mobility and impairing the nervous system.

Researchers recognize several phases of spinal decay:

Phase 1 is a loss of standard spinal curves and nervous system dysfunction created by misalignments and malfunctions of the spine.

Phase 2 is when bones spur abnormal bony growths distort the shape and function of the vertebrae. Soft tissues, such as disk and ligaments, degenerate from the lack of normal joint motion.

Phase 3 happens after years of neglect, and the improperly functioning spinal joints are often fused. Reduced mobility and impaired nervous system function can diminish one’s quality of life.

Strengthen Your Immune System

You have an incredible healing ability protecting you all the time. Your skin and mucous create a physical barrier to invasion, digestive juices dissolve germs, urine cleans out your urinary tract and skin secretions kill many germs while you’re alive. Other defenses include fever to “burn off” infections, swelling to bring healing to injured areas and specialized cells that attack and devour intruders..

Chiropractic is a powerful immune system “wake up call.” Dr. Mark D. Miller will analyze your structural system to locate Vertebral Subluxations, a severe condition that causes spine and nerve stress and impairs your immune function. Your body’s “inner healer” is constantly working to balance your chemistry, strengthen your systems and awaken your connection to life.

See Dr. Mark D. Miller periodically to manage your Vertebral Subluxations. Your immune system will function closer to its optimal level so you may fight disease, prevent illness and function at your best.

The Truth About Real Health

The key to real health is to have every organ, tissue, and system of your body functioning precisely the way it was designed. Health has nothing to do with how you feel. Those who die of heart attacks, cancer, or other health problems suffer ill health long before their first symptom! Real health allows us to adapt to our environment, cooling us when we are hot, fighting a virus, healing a cut, digesting our food, and millions of other vital activities.. When there is interference to this complex nervous system, symptoms may result. These symptoms are simply warning signs that things are not right. The Chiropractic approach is to locate and restore any part of the nervous system that has lost proper control of the organs and tissues in your body.

A common cause is when the moving bones of the spinal column choke the spinal cord or nerve roots. This is called a Vertebral Subluxation. Locating, reducing and preventing these Vertebral Subluxations is the primary interest of Dr. Miller.
